Abstract :
This articleproposesatabusearchapproachtosolveamathematicalprogrammingformulationofthe
linear classificationproblem,whichconsistsofdetermininganhyperplanethatseparatestwogroupsof
points aswellaspossiblein Rm. Thetabusearchapproachproposedisbasedonanon-standard
formulationusinglinearsysteminfeasibility.Thesearchspaceisthesetofbasesdefinedonthematrix
that describesthelinearsystem.Themovesareperformedbypivotingonaspecifiedrowandcolumn.
On realmachinelearningdatabases,ourapproachcomparesfavorablywithimplementationsbasedon
parametricprogrammingandirreducibleinfeasibleconstraintsets.Additionalcomputationalresultsfor
randomlygeneratedinstancesconfirmthatourmethodprovidesasuitablealternativetothemixed
integerprogrammingformulationthatissolvedbyacommercialcodewhenthenumberofattributesm
increases.
