Abstract :
Revenuemanagementwithflexibleproductshasexperiencedagrowinginterestintheacademic
literaturewithinthelastfewyears.Flexibleproductsallowsupply-sidesubstitutionbetweenresources
and canthereforehelptomaximizeoverallrevenueaswellascapacityutilizationinmarketswith
highlyuncertaindemand.Thispaperaddressesthequestionofhowthemathematicalmodelswhich
have beendevelopedforcapacitycontrolwithflexibleproductsshouldbeusedovertimetoexploit
the substitutionopportunities,whilekeepingpracticalapplicabilityinmind.Severaldynamic
controlmechanismsareproposed,eachofwhichmakesuseoftheflexibilitytoadifferentextent.
A comprehensivecomputationalstudyshowsthepotentialofthedifferentapproachesbyrevealing
their strengthsandweaknesses.
