Abstract :
In thispaperweproposeanantcolonyoptimizationmetaheuristic(ACO-CF)tosolvethemachine–part
cell formationproblem.ACO-CFisa MAX2MIN ant system,whichisimplementedinthehyper-cube
frameworktoautomaticallyscaletheobjectivefunctionsofmachine–partcellformationproblems.As
an intensificationstrategy,weintegrateaniterativelylocalsearchintoACO-CF.Basedonthe
assignmentofthemachinesorparts,thelocalsearchcanoptimallyreassignpartsormachinestocells.
We carryoutaseriesofexperimentstoinvestigatetheperformanceofACO-CFonsomestandard
benchmarkproblems.ThecomparisonstudybetweenACO-CFandothermethodsproposedinthe
literatureindicatesthatACO-CFisoneofthebestapproachesforsolvingthemachine–partcell
formationproblem.
