Abstract :
Satellitecommunicationstechnologyhasatremendousimpactinrefiningourworld.Thefrequency
assignmentproblemisofafundamentalimportancewhenitcomestoprovidinghigh-quality
transmissionsinsatellitecommunicationsystems.TheNP-completefrequencyassignmentproblemin
satellitecommunicationsinvolvestherearrangementoffrequenciesofonesetofcarrierswhilekeeping
the othersetfixedinordertominimizethelargestandtotalinterferenceamongcarriers.Inthispaper,
we presentanumberofalgorithms,basedondifferentialevolution,tosolvethefrequencyassignment
problem.Weinvestigateseveralschemesrangingfromadaptivedifferentialevolutiontohybrid
algorithmsinwhichheuristicisembeddedwithindifferentialevolution.Theeffectivenessand
robustnessofourproposedalgorithmsisdemonstratedthroughsolvingasetofbenchmarkproblems
and comparingtheresultswithanumberofpreviouslyproposedtechniquesthatsolvethesame
problem.Experimentalresultsshowthatourproposedalgorithms,ingeneral,andhybridonesin
particular,outperformtheexistingalgorithmsbothintermsofthequalityofthesolutionsand
computationaltime.
