Abstract :
This paperproposesa0-1integerlinearprogrammingmodelforthepoint-featurecartographiclabel
placementproblembasedonlabelingofthelargestnumberoffreelabels.Inaddition,onenon-trivial
valid inequalityispresentedtostrengthenthisproposedmodel.Evenwiththestrengthenedmodel,a
commercialsolverwasnotabletosolvearepresentativesampleofknowninstancespresentedinthe
literature.Thus,wealsopresentaLagrangeandecompositiontechniquebasedongraphpartitioning.
Our addedapproachesestablishedoptimalsolutionsforpracticallyalltheusedinstancesandthe
results significantlyimprovedtheonespresentedinrecentstudiesconcerningtheproblem.
