Abstract :
We addressthefollowingsingle-facilitylocationproblem:afirmisenteringintoamarketbylocating
one facilityinaregionoftheplane.Thedemandcapturedfromeachuserbythefacilitywillbe
proportionaltotheusersbuyingpowerandinverselyproportionaltoafunctionoftheuser-facility
distance.Uncertaintyexistsonthebuyingpower(weight)oftheusers.Thisismodeledbyassuming
that asetofscenariosexists,eachscenariocorrespondingtoaweightrealization.Theobjectiveisto
locate thefacilityfollowingtheSavagecriterion,i.e.,theminimax-regretlocationissought.The
problemisformulatedasaglobaloptimizationproblemwithobjectivewrittenasdifferenceoftwo
convex monotonicfunctions.Thenumericalresultsobtainedshowthatabranchandboundusingthis
new methodforobtainingboundsclearlyoutperformsbenchmarkprocedures.
