Abstract :
Thepresentpaperproposesanewstochasticoptimization algorithmasahybridizationofarelativelyrecent
stochasticoptimizationalgorithm,calledbiogeography-basedoptimization(BBO)withthedifferential
evolution(DE)algorithm.ThiscombinationincorporatesDEalgorithmintotheoptimizationprocedureof
BBO withanattempttoincorporatediversitytoovercomestagnationatlocaloptima.Wealsoproposeto
implementanadditionalselectionprocedureforBBO,whichpreservesfitterhabitatsforsubsequent
generations. TheproposedvariationofBBO,namedDBBO,istestedforseveralbenchmarkfunction
optimizationproblems.TheresultsshowthatDBBOcansignificantlyoutperformthebasicBBOalgorithm
and canmostlyemergeasthebestsolutionprovidingalgorithmamongcompetingBBOandDEalgorithms.
