Abstract :
Many researchinitiativescarriedoutinproductionmanagementconsiderprocessplanningand
operationsschedulingastwoseparateandsequentialfunctions.However,incertaincontexts,thetwo
functionsmustbebetterintegrated.Thisisthecaseindivergentproductionsystemswithco-production
(i.e. productionofdifferentproductsatthesametimefromasingleproductinput)whenalternative
productionprocessesareavailable.Thispaperstudiessuchacontextandfocusesonthecaseofdryingand
finishingoperationsinasoftwoodlumberfacility.Thesituationisaddressedusingasinglemodelthat
simultaneouslyperformsprocessplanningandscheduling.Weevaluatetwoalternativeformulations.
The firstoneisbasedonmixedintegerprogramming(MIP)andthesecondonconstraintprogramming
(CP). WealsoproposeasearchproceduretoimprovetheperformanceoftheCPapproach.Both
approachesarecomparedwithrespecttotheircapacitytogenerategoodsolutionsinshort
computationtime.
