Abstract :
This paperdealswiththeschedulingproblemofminimizingthemakespaninapermutationalflowshop
environmentwiththepossibilityofoutsourcingcertainjobs.Itaddressesthisproblembymeansofthe
developmentofanantcolonyoptimization-basedalgorithm.Thisnewalgorithm,herenamedas
flowshopantcolonyoptimizationiscomposedoftwocombinedACOheuristics.Theresultsshowthatthis
new approachcanbeusedtosolvetheproblemefficientlyandinashortcomputationaltime.
