Abstract :
In thispaperweproposeaheuristicapproachfortheproblemofpackingequalrectangleswithinaconvex
region. TheapproachisbasedonanIteratedLocalSearchscheme,inwhichthekeystepistheperturbation
move.Differentperturbationmoves,bothcombinatorialandcontinuousones,areproposedand
comparedthroughextensivecomputationalexperimentsonasetoftestinstances.Theoverallresults
are quiteencouraging.
