Monotonicity of solutions converging to a saddle point equilibrium

If a difference equation has a saddle point equilibrium, then there are solutions which converge to this equilibrium. For second order equations, conditions are given which imply that these solutions are monotone. These results are used to analyze a rational difference equation which possesses a saddle point equilibrium.  2004 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved
