Treatment of Agitation Using Depakote: A Patient with Dementia

We report the findings of a case study where Depakote was prescribed for a 56-year-old female with Alzheimerʹs disease. Our results indicate that Depakote is significantly effective in reducing repetitive behaviors, anxiety (worry) and hostility (belligerence, hitting, yelling). The patientʹs willingness to cooperate improved, as did her mood. The use of Depakote as a platform for the treatment of agitation in nursing home patients should be considered.
