Instability Results for Reaction Diffusion Equations over Surfaces of Revolutions

Reaction diffusion equations over surfaces of revolution are considered. It is shown that stable steady states cannot vary in the direction of revolution. In addition we prove that when the surface encloses a convex domain, then nonconstant steady states are unstable.
