Abstract
The largely singular operators that are defined in this paper are a sharp contrast to invertible operators or Fredholm operators. Nevertheless, we discover that the set has a surprising amount of nice structure. Without assuming that the underlying Hilbert space is separable, we are able to compute the distance from an arbitrary operator to the set. The distance formula involves the modulus of invertibility, which was introduced in an earlier paper.
