Abstract :
Anexperimentoncontainmentatmospheremixingandstratification,whichwasoriginallyperformedintheTOSQANfacilityinSaclay(France),wassimulatedwiththeComputationalFluidDynamicscodeCFX4.4.TheTOSQANfacilityconsistsofalargecylindricalvesselinwhichgasesareinjected.Intheconsideredexperiment,steam,airandheliumwereinjectedduringdifferentphasesoftheexperiment,withsteamcondensingonsomepartsofthevesselwalls.Duringcertainphases,steadystateswereobtainedwhenthesteamcondensationratebecameequaltothesteaminjectionrate,withallboundaryconditionsremainingconstant.Inthepresentwork,threesuchintermediatesteadystatesweresimulatedindependently.Theessentialpurposewastoreproducethenon-homogeneousstructureofthevesselatmosphere,giventhatcondensationissimulatedinsuchawaytoobtainthepropercondensationrate.Atwo-dimensionalaxisymmetricmodeloftheTOSQANvesselfortheCFX4.4codewasdeveloped.Theflowinthesimulationdomainwasmodeledassingle-phase.Steamcondensationonvesselwallswasmodeledasasinkofmassandenergy.Calculatedprofilesoftemperature,steamconcentration,andvelocitycomponentsarecomparedtoexperimentalresultsanddiscussed.ThecomparisonsuggeststhatatmospheremixingandstratificationinanNPPcontainmentataccidentconditionscouldbesuccessfullysimulatedusingtheproposedCFDapproach.
