Abstract :
Thispaperreportsonanexperimentalstudyontransitionalheattransferofwaterflowinaheatedverticaltubeundernaturalcirculationconditions.Intheexperimentsthelocalandaverageheattransfercoefficientswereobtained.Theexperimentaldatawerecomparedwiththepredictionsbyaforcedflowcorrelationavailableintheliterature.ThecomparisonsshowthattheNusseltnumbervalueinthefullydevelopedregionisabout30%lowerthanthepredictionsbytheforcedflowcorrelationduetoflowlaminarizationinthelayerinducedbyco-currentbulknaturalcirculationandfreeconvection.ByusingtheRayleighnumberRatorepresenttheinfluenceoffreeconvectiononheattransfer,theempiricalcorrelationsforthecalculationoflocalandaverageheattransferbehaviorinthetubeatnaturalcirculationhavebeendeveloped.Theempiricalcorrelationsareingoodagreementwiththeexperimentaldata.Basedontheexperimentalresults,theeffectofthethermalentry-lengthbehavioronheattransferdesigninthetubeundernaturalcirculationwasevaluated.
