Abstract :
Inthepresenteditorialarticle,questionsaboutmodelingofmeltbreakupareemphasizedwhichseemnotyettobefinallysolvedinthecontributionstothepresentissue.Thesequestionsconcernthebasicinstabilityandstrippingapproachesaswellasthedeterminationofthedecisivefluidflowalongthejetandthusthefeedbackofbreakupwiththeproducedmixture.Concerningthevalidation,understandingofmaterialinfluencesisemphasizedbyevaluationsaboutjetlengthsanddiameterrelationsforFAROandPREMIXexperiments.Evaluationsontheformationofparticulatedebrisrequiretoconsiderbreakupaswellascrustformationonresultingdropsofmeltdependingonthemixtureproperties,especiallythesteamcontentinthemixture.Sufficientbreakupaswellasquenchingappearonlytobepossiblewithnottoohighsteamcontentsinthemixture.Asimplifiedmodelingisenvisaged,adaptedtoexperimentalresultswhichneverthelesscapturesthemajoreffectsoverasufficientbandwidthofconditions.
