Abstract :
Theformationofcoriumdebrisastheresultoffuel-coolantinteraction(energeticornot)hasbeenstudiedexperimentallyintheFAROandKROTOSfacilitiesoperatedatJRC-Isprabetween1991and1999.Experimentswereperformedwith3–177kgofUO2–ZrO2andUO2–ZrO2–Zrmelts,quenchedinwateratdepthbetween1and2m,andpressurebetween0.1and5.0MPa.Theeffectofvariousparameterssuchasmeltcomposition,systempressure,waterdepthandsubcoolingonthequenchingprocesses,debrischaracteristicsandthermalloadonbottomheadwereinvestigated,thus,givingalargepaletteofdataforrealisticreactorsituations.
