  • Abstract
    TheobjectiveofthedevelopmentofthecodesystemKESSissimulatingtheprocessesofcoremelting,relocationofcorematerialtothelowerheadofthereactorpressurevessel(RPV)anditsfurtherheatup,modellingoffissionproductreleaseandcoolabilityofthecorematerial.Inthescopeofthecodedevelopment,IKEJETandIKEMIXweredesignedaskeymodelsforthebreakupofamoltenjetfallingintoawaterpool,coolingoffragmentsandtheformationofparticulatedebrisbeds.Calculationswereperformedwiththesecodes,simulatingFAROcoriumquenchingexperimentsatsaturated(L-28)andsubcooled(L-31)conditions,aswellasPREMIXexperiments,e.g.PM-16.Withtheassumptionofareducedinterfacialfrictionbetweenwaterandsteamascomparedtousuallyappliedlaws,themeltbreakup,energyreleasefromthemeltandpressurisationofthevesselobservedintheexperimentsarereproducedwithareasonableaccuracy.Themodelisfurtherappliedtoreactorconditions,calculatingtherelocationofamassofcoriumof30tintothelowerplenum,itsfragmentationandtheformationofaparticlebed.
