Abstract :
Anexperimentalinvestigationofboilingphenomenaininductivelyheatedparticlebedshasbeenperformed.Themajoraimoftheseexperimentsistoprovidedataforvalidatingnumericalcodesusedinreactorsafety.Theexperimentscanbedividedinthreeparts:boilingexperiments,dryoutexperimentsandquenchingexperiments.Inboilingexperiments,thepressuregradientshavebeenmeasuredalongthebedheightfordifferentflowmodes,differentheatinputsanddifferentsystempressures.Indryoutexperiments,theminimumheatinputhasbeendeterminedforwhichtheparticlebedstartstosuperheatsignificantlyabovethesaturationtemperature.Thefinaltestseriesdealswiththecooldownbehaviourofstronglysuperheatedparticlesbyfloodingthemwithcoldwater.Theinitialtemperaturesrangedfrom200upto900°Cintop-quenchingexperimentsandfrom230upto450°Cinbottom-quenchingexperiments.Allexperimentswereperformedwithpre-oxidisedstainlesssteelballsof6and3mmdiameterinacylindricalcrucible.Thebedheightwas640mmandthebeddiameterwas125mmforboilinganddryoutexperiments,respectively150mmforquenchingexperiments.Theexperimentalresultsarecomparedwithvariousavailabledryoutmodels.
