Abstract :
AseriesofMCCItestswasperformedinCOTELSprojectatNUPECtoexamineconcretedegradationcharacteristicsduringMCCIwithandwithoutwateradditionontothedebris.MoltenstainlesssteeloramixturecomposedofUO2,ZrO2,Zrandstainlesssteelwasslumpedintoatwo-dimensionalconcretetrap,wherevolumetricdecayheatgenerationwassimulatedbyaninductionheatingtechnique.TheresultsofdryMCCItestsimpliedthatconcreteablationwasdominatedbymeltingofaggregateswhenthedebriswascrustedandcementwasthermallyweakerthanaggregates.Withoutpresenceofstablecrust,unmoltenaggregateswerepossibletorelocateupwardduetothedensitydifferencefromthedebris.Concreteresponsesunderawetconditionshowedatendencythatwatermigratedintothermallydegradedconcrete.ApreliminarywatermigrationmodelwasincorporatedintoCOCOcodefortransientheatconduction.ThepredictionbyCOCOcodeagreedwiththetendencyofconcretethermalresponsesobservedinthedryandwetMCCItests.
