  • Abstract
    Thepredictionofover-pressuresandtemperaturesthataregeneratedbyhydrogenexplosionsincaseofaseverenuclearaccidentisacrucialstageofthesafetyanalysisofthecontainment.TheinvestigationpresentedinthispaperisacontinuationofthenumericalstudiesofvalidationandbenchmarkingthatwerecarriedoutintheEuropeanco-sponsoredprojectHYCOM.Inthepresentwork,numericalsimulationsofhydrogendeflagrationswithinasimplified,real-scaleEuropeanPressureReactor(EPR)containmenthavebeenperformedwithtwoCFDcodes,CFX4andREACFLOW.Theanalysishasbeenfocusednotonlyonoverpressurepeaksandpressureoscillations,butalsoonpressuredifferencesbetweenthetwosidesofthesamewallofinternalcompartments.Differentgeometricalconfigurationshavebeenconsideredintermofpresenceofventsbetweeninternalcompartmentsandintermofventsnumber,sizeandposition.Singleandmultipleignitionpointshavealsobeentakenintoaccount.ThepaperdescribesthemainresultsoftheinvestigationanditisademonstrationofhowCFDmodellingcanprovidesignificantindicationsforreal-scalesafetyapplicationswithinthelimitsofuncertaintyoftheaccidentscenarios.
