Abstract :
Theevolutionofthestructureofagas–liquidflowinalargeverticalpipeof195mminnerdiameterwasinvestigatedattheTOPFLOWtestfacilityinRossendorf.Wire-meshsensorswereusedtomeasuresequencesoftwo-dimensionaldistributionsoflocalinstantaneousgasfractionwithinthecompletepipecross-section.Thesensorsownaresolutionof3mmatafrequencyof2500Hz.Superficialvelocitieswerevariedinarangecoveringflowregimesfrombubblytochurn-turbulentflow.Thedistancebetweenthegasinjectionandthesensorpositionwaschangedusingaso-calledvariablegasinjectionsystem.Itconsistsofsixgasinjectionunits,eachequippedwiththreeringsofinjectionorificesinthepipewall(orificediameter:1and4mm),whicharefedfromringchambers.Thegasflowtowardsthesedistributorchambersisindividuallycontrolledbyvalves.Measuredbubble-sizeresolvedradialgasfractionprofilesrevealdifferencesinthelateralmigrationofbubblesofdifferentsizestartingfromtheinjectionatthewall.Theevolutionofbubble-sizedistributionsallowstostudybubblecoalescenceandbreak-up.Theinfluenceofthephysicalpropertiesofthefluidwasstudiedbycomparingcoldair–waterexperimentswithsteam–watertestsat65bar.
