Abstract :
Thispaperdealswithconcretebehaviourunderchemicalandmechanicaldegradations.Experimentalinvestigationsaredescribedwheretheeffectsofthecalciumleachingprocessofconcreteonitsmechanicalpropertiesarehighlighted.Thecalciumleachingandmechanicaltestsoncementpaste,mortarandconcretesamplesarepresented.Becauseoftheslowkineticsofleachingunderdeionisedwater,anacceleratedmethodhasbeenchosenbyusinganammoniumnitratesolutioninstead.Thespecimensareimmersedintoa6mol/lammoniumnitratesolutionwithacontrolledpHdisposal.Toquantifytheleachingevolution,thedegradationdepthisthenmeasuredatcertaintimeintervalsbymeansofaphenolphthaleinsolution.Theexperimentalresultsshowthechemicaldegradationofthecement-basedmaterialandtheimportantroleofaggregateinthecalciumleachingprocessofconcrete.Compressiontestsofconcretesamplesarealsoperformed.Weobservethatthereisastrongcouplingbetweenthecalciumleachingandthemechanicalbehaviour;asleachinggrows,alossofstiffnessandofstrengthareobservedandasmootherpost-peakbehaviourisnoted.
