Abstract :
Presentstudyinvestigatesthegeometriceffectsofflowobstructiononthedistributionoflocaltwo-phaseflowparametersandtheirtransportcharacteristicsinhorizontalbubblyflow.Theroundglasstubesof50.3mmininnerdiameterareemployedastestsections,alongwhicha90-degreeElbowislocatedatL/D=206.6fromthetwo-phasemixtureinlet.Intotal,15differentflowconditionsareexaminedwithintheair–waterbubblyflowregime.Thedetailedlocaltwo-phaseflowparametersareacquiredbythedouble-sensorconductivityprobeatfourdifferentaxiallocations.Theeffectofelbowisfoundtobeevidentinboththedistributionoflocalparametersandtheirdevelopment.Theelbowclearlypromotesbubbleinteractionsresultinginsignificantchangesininterfacialareaconcentration.Itisalsofoundthattheelbow-effectpropagatestobemoresignificantfurtherdownstream(L/D=250)thanimmediatedownstream(L/D=225)oftheelbow.Furthermore,itisshownthattheelbowinducessignificantoscillationsintheflowinbothverticalandhorizontaldirectionsofthetubecross-section.Characteristicgeometriceffectsduetotheexistenceofelbowarealsoshownclearlyinthetransportofone-dimensionalinterfacialareaconcentrationandvoidfractionalongtheflow.
