Abstract :
Inthispaper,asimplifiedtechniqueispresentedtodeterminetheshakedownlimitloadofastructureusingthefiniteelementmethod.Thesimplifiedtechniquedeterminestheshakedownlimitloadwithoutperforminglengthytimeconsumingfullelastic-plasticcyclicloadingsimulationsorconventionaliterativeelastictechniques.Instead,theshakedownlimitloadisdeterminedbyperformingtwoanalysesnamely:anelasticanalysisandanelastic-plasticanalysis.Byextractingtheresultsofthetwoanalyses,theshakedownlimitloadisdeterminedthroughthecalculationoftheresidualstressesdevelopedwithinthestructure.Thesimplifiedtechniqueisappliedandverifiedusingtwobenchmarkshakedownproblemsnamely:thetwo-barstructuresubjectedtoconstantaxialforceandcyclicthermalloading,andtheBreecylindersubjectedtoconstantinternalpressureandcyclichightemperaturevariationacrossitswall.Theresultsofthesimplifiedtechniqueshowedverygoodcorrelationwiththe,analyticallydetermined,Breediagramsofbothstructures.Inordertogainconfidenceinthesimplifiedtechnique,theshakedownlimitloadsoutputbythesimplifiedtechniqueareusedtoperformfullelastic-plasticcyclicloadingsimulationstocheckforshakedownbehaviorofbothstructures.
