Abstract :
Ananalyticalthermalhydraulicmodelhasbeendevelopedfromfundamentalconservationlaws,fortheprocessofoscillatorycondensationofsteaminapoolofwater,inpresenceofnon-condensablegas(air).Theoscillatorycondensationphenomenaaddressedhereissteamchugging,withanemphasislaidonstudyingtheeffectofsmallamountofairpresentinsteam,onthephenomena.Theobjectiveofdevelopingthemodelistopresentanapproximationoftherealphenomenaandtoobtainananalyticalsolution.Attheoutset,aparametricstudywasconductedbyusingthedevelopedmodeltocaptureandidentifythesalientfeaturesofsteamchuggingandcomparethewaveshapesobtainedwiththoseavailableinopenliterature.Subsequently,theeffectofpresenceofairinsteamwasstudiedindetailusingthenon-condensablegasmodel.Anattempthasbeenmadetoshownumericallythatthepresenceofasmallamountofairinsteamwouldeffectivelystabilizecondensationandpreventinceptionofchugging.Typicalresultsarepresentedinthispapertobringoutthedifferenceinoscillatorybehaviorduetopresenceandabsenceofnon-condensablegas.
