Abstract :
Theexistenceofgapsattubesupportsnecessitatestimedomainmodellingoffluidforcestopredictflow-inducedvibrationsandassociatedwearinheatexchangersandsteamgenerators.Thispaperpresentsanewtime-domainmodelforfluidelasticinstabilityforcesoftubeswithloose-supports.Inthismodel,thefluidelasticforce,whichisdependentonflowvelocityandarraygeometry,issuperimposedontheturbulenceforcingfunction.Themodelwasusedtocalculatethecriticalflowvelocity,tuberesponse,andtube/supportinteractionparameters,suchasimpactforceandworkrate.Thecriticalvelocityforlinearcaseswasaccuratelypredicted.Thecriticalflowvelocityfortheloosesupportcasewasfoundtobesensitivetoboththegapsizeandtheturbulencelevel.
