Abstract :
TheadvancedPWRfuelfortheOPR1000sinKorea,PLUS7,hasbeendevelopedtoenhancethermalperformance,highburnupcapabilityandfuelreliabilityagainstgrid-to-rodfrettingwearanddebris.TheoutstandingdesignfeaturesofPLUS7includemixingvanemid-gridsforincreasingthermalperformanceandminimizingvibration-inducedfrettingwear,optimizedfueldimensionsandadvancedzirconiumalloysforhighburnupcapabilityof72,000MWD/MTU,andanoptimizedfuelroddiameterforreducingpressuredropandimprovingneutroneconomy.Thefuelassemblyanditscomponentsperformanceshavebeenverifiedthroughawidespectrumofmechanical,thermalhydraulic,vibrationandfrettingweartests.BasedontheverificationtestresultsandtheevaluationswiththehelpoftheKNFdesigncodesystem,itisfoundthatthePLUS7fuelwillmaintainitsintegrityuptotheenvisagedburnupof72,000MWD/MTU.Inaddition,thePLUS7fuelperformanceswereevaluatedtobeconsiderablyimprovedincomparisonwiththecurrentfuelusedintheOPR1000s.
