Study of intercropping corn and soybean in various planting dates

ABSTRACT: To investigate the effects of planting date and planting ratio in the intercropping of corn and soybean, this assay was conducted in the research farm of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resource University of Gorgan in complete randomized block design with three replications in 2004. Treatments consisted of four planting dates (May 4, May 19, June 4 and June 19) and three planting ratio (pure corn, 50% corn + 50% soybean and pure soybean). Traits measured, including yield and yield components in each plant. The results showed that planting date had a significant impact on all traits in both plants. In both crop, Intercropping increases yield and yield components in all planting dates (except on June 19 planting date).The highest yield of corn and soybean was obtained in June 4 planting date and intercropping system respectively. The highest LER of 2.21 belonged to June 4 planting date. With delay in planting date to 19 June, the performance was significantly decreased in both plants and planting system.
