Abstract :
ABSTRACT: In order to study heritability, gene action and relationships between seed yield and its components in maize, six generations including P1 (K3218), P2(K18), F1, F2, BC1.1 and BC1.2were evaluated in a randomized complete block design of experiment with three replications during 2009 crop year. The correlation analysis showed that in most of the cases the values of genotypic correlation between traits were greater than phenotypic values. Plant height hadhigh positive genotypic correlation with seed yield. Path analysis also showed high positive direct effects of yield components on seed yield per plant. However ear seed weighthad high positive direct effect on seed yield per plant, but showed significant negative correlation with seed yield through large negative indirect effects on other yield components. The additive-dominance model using generation mean analysis was sufficient for number of leaves per plant and number of tassel branches. High broad sense heritabilitywas also observed for ear weight and ear seed weight.
