Abstract :
ABSTRACT: During a field experiment with a factorial randomized complete block design, the possibilities of reducing the herbicide was investigated with the combined chemical and mechanical methods in order to control the weed’s growth and determination of the times of the sugar beet seedbed’s preparation. This was carried out at the experimental field of the Plant Protection Research Institute located in Karaj. Factors included weed’s management practices in two levels (1.Broadcast herbicide application, 2.band herbicides application and field cultivator) also seedbed’s preparation in two time levels: (during autumn and spring). Investigated traits included sugar beets yield and the quantity of dry matter of weeds prior and following the application of the treatment. In the comparison of the factors, considering that the quantity of dry matters of the weeds exceeded in band herbicide application rather that broadcast herbicide application in both time periods, no significance difference was observed regarding the sugar beets function. The result can be explained in this way, if the band herbicide management is used instead of broadcast herbicide management ,which is the common method of control of sugar beetʹs weeds, not only the cost of herbicide application is reduced, but also the uncontrolled side effects of using herbicides such as soil and water pollution will be prevented.
