Abstract :
The family Platycephlidae, also known as flathead, includes many species, two of which can be found in the waters of Iran (Persian Gulf and Oman Sea): Platycephalus indicus and Grammoplites suppositus. Platycephalus indicus has three blackish sinuous stripes with feeble yellowish reflexes are displayed on the caudal fin. This species was caught by moshta fishing at a depth around 2 m from the Bandar Abbas coast. Grammoplites suppositus has a large black blotch in first dorsal fin. This species was collected by trawls at a depth around 50 m from off the Bandar Abbas waters.
