Abstract :
ABSTRACT:Environmental constrains such as salinity the most limiting factors for agriculture productivity. In order to selection of alfalfa ecotypes for moderate salinity stress tolerance an experiment was conducted in saline area of East Azarbayjan. This experiment was conducted in the Agriculture and Natural Resources Research Center of East Azarbayjan, Khajeh station during 2009 and 2010 under moderate salinity stress condition (EC=4.59 dsm-1). In this study a randomized completly block design with three replications was carried out. Plants harvested in four turns and different times (two harvest for each year). Fresh and dry weight of leaves, stems and forage yield were measured. All of the traits measured per plant and mean of plants in four harvestcalculated for each trait. Results of analysis of variance revealed significant difference at 1% probability level for all of the traits indicating high genetic variability. After analysis of variance, comparisons of mean for evaluated traits by least significant difference (LSD) method at 5% probability level was carried out. Results showed that Qarayonjeh and Khajeh had most tolerance for moderate salinity stress. The relationship of forage yield and yield components was investigated by calculating Pearson’s correlation coefficients. All of the evaluated traits were significantly correlated with fresh and dry forage yield.
