Abstract :
The aim of the study was to analyze egg quality changes of quails selected by body weight after the 8th generation. The effect of age on the internal quality of eggs from quails (Coturnix coturnix coturnix) on the 12 th, 16th and 20th weeks of age was evaluated. About 360 eggs in each period were used to evaluate egg quality parameters including egg weight, specific gravity, albumen height, Haugh units, yolk weight, yolk and albumen weight and shell weight. A significantly (p < 0.05) higher albumen height and Haugh units were found in week 12 than in week 16 and week 20 of age of birds. All the other egg quality parameters were not affected by the age of the birds. In general, egg weight was about 3.0g higher in comparison with those found in the literature in non-selected quails. These results suggest that the albumen height and Haugh unit begin to decrease at the 16th week of age of the quails and that the egg weight during incubation is positively correlated with the weight of the birds until 35 days of age.
