Abstract :
The study was undertaken to determine the growth performance and internal weight organ of broiler fed varying level of Toasted Sorrel Seed Meal (TSSM) Hibiscus sabdariffa for soybeans meal in a broiler finisher ration. Seventy Five 4 weeks old 4 weeks old Anak 2000 white strain birds were used in the study. The birds were divided into five treatments groups of fifteen birds in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The treatments had soybean meal quantitatively substituted at 0%, 5%, 15%, and 20% respectively by Toasted Sorrel Seed meal (TSSM). At 28 days of age, 3 broilers of comparable live weights per replicate were selected, starved for 12 hours, slaughtered and eviscerated to determine the dressed weight at increasing levels of TSSM in the diet. There was significant (P < 0.05) differences between treatments means for feed intake, weight gain and feed conversion ratio as the dietary level of TSSM increased in the diet. The feed cost/ Kg weight gain for Diet 5(20 %) were better than other treatment groups. The internal organs (Liver, Lungs, heart, kidney, Gizzard, GIT length) weights shows no significant difference (P < 0.05) but showed significant difference (P < 0.05) for Abdominal fat weight. Considering the lower feed conversion ratio for (TSSM) diets, favorably comparable market weight of the birds fed Diet 5(20%) dietary level of inclusion, Organ weights and better cost per Kg weight gain of the test diets, Diet 5(20%) dietary inclusion level of inclusion (TSSM) for soybean meal is recommended in the broiler finisher diet.
