Relationship between depression and social phobia amongst the Prisoners of Darehshahr Jail

The research purpose was to investigate the relationship between depression and social phobia amongst the prisoners of Dareh Shahr Jail. Our statistical population comprised all the prisoners jailed in a prison of Dareh Shahr Province, out of which a sample of 50 prisoners was randomly selected and responded to Social Phobia Inventory (SPIN) and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). Data were analyzed using correlation test, one-way variance analysis and t-test. Results indicated that there was no significant difference in terms of age and length of imprisonment on depression and social phobia scores between the prisoners. Moreover, no significant difference was observed in terms of educational background on the depression score. However, there was significant difference between the prisoners in terms of educational background on the social phobia scores.
