Small step-dominating sets in trees

We prove that for every tree image of diameter image there is a set image with image and a mapping image such that for every vertex image there is exactly one vertex image whose distance to image equals image. This settles a conjecture of Dror et al. [Some results in step domination of trees, Discrete Math. 289 (2004) 137–144].
