  • Abstract
    The densest lattice packings of ellipsoids in Euclidian d-space Ed are known for d⩽8. We construct dense non-lattice packings for 4⩽d⩽8 that exceed the densities of the densest lattice packings by surprisingly large factors, in particular in E8 by more than 42.9%.
