Abstract :
In a 1972 paper, Germain Kreweras investigated noncrossing partitions under the refinement order relation. His paper set the stage both for a wealth of further enumerative results, and for new connections between noncrossing partitions, the combinatorics of partially ordered sets, and algebraic combinatorics. Without attempting to give an exhaustive account, this article illustrates aspects of enumerative and algebraic combinatorics supported by the lattice of noncrossing partitions, reflecting developments since Germain Kreweras’ paper. The sample of topics includes instances when noncrossing partitions arise in the context of algebraic combinatorics, geometric combinatorics, in relation to topological problems, questions in probability theory and mathematical biology.

Dans un article paru en 1972, Germain Kreweras fit une étude des partitions noncroisées en tant quʹensemble ordonné. Cet article créa le cadre où, depuis lors, on a développé une multitude de résultats supplémentaires ainsi que des nouveaux liens entre les partitions noncroisées, la combinatoire des ensembles ordonnés et la combinatoire algébrique. Sans tâcher dʹen donner un traitement au complet, lʹarticle présent exemplifie quelques aspects énumératifs et de combinatoire algébrique où interviennent les partitions noncroisées. Ceux-ci mettent en évidence des développements survenus depuis la publication de lʹarticle de Germain Kreweras et qui portent sur des problèmes en combinatoire algébrique et géométrique, ainsi que sur des questions reliées à la topologie, aux probabilités et à la biologie mathématique.
