Congruence classes in M3(Fq) (q odd)

In dimensions 2 and 3, matrices over a field of characteristic ≠2 are classified up to congruence by means of certain representatives which are sums of diagonal and antisymmetric matrices. Over a finite field, these representatives then enable us very easily to determine the sizes of the various congruence classes.
