Abstract
The National Agency for Environmental Protection and Technical Services (APAT) manages the real-time tidal gauge system in the lagoon of
Venice and Northern Adriatic sea (RTLV). The principal aim is the analysis of historical time series to investigate subsidence and eustatism,
storm surges and hydrodynamics in the transitional environment of the coastal areas in the North-western Adriatic regions. Results on the analysis
of time series of mean sea level in Venice are illustrated. It also focuses on the astronomical tides in the lagoon of Venice. The main differences
among the hydrodynamics of the lagoon in the early 20th century and the lagoon now are pointed out confirming a meaningful decay
from a transitional to a marine environment.
