Abstract :
A stratified flow past a three-dimensional obstacle was investigated with a three-dimensional, non-hydrostatic, numerical turbulent model. The numerical results clarify the behavior of the flow at low Froude number, showing the relative importance of the stratification effects on the flow splitting, wave breaking, and lee vortices phenomena. Further, a vertical vorticity budget study shows that the tilting term and the friction term are important to the formation of lee vortices while the baroclinicity effect can be ignored.
