Solution and solid-state structure of 2,6-anhydro-1,1-bis(ethylsulfonyl)-1-deoxy-d-talitol

d-Galactose diethyl dithioacetal can be oxidized with m-chloroperoxybenzoic acid to produce the previously described highly crystalline bis(ethylsulfone), the structure of which has now been confirmed by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography.
