Abstract
The Skrunda Radio Location Station in Latvia, an early warning radar system which operates in the 156 to 162 Mhz frequency range, has been in operation since 1971 and is scheduled to operate until 1998. Currently, information on the biological effects of radio frequency electromagnetic radiation emissions on plants is rare. A brief introduction to six papers in this issue of The Science of the Total Environment, which deal with the effects of the Skrunda Radio Location Station, is presented.
