Abstract :
This paper presents data on the90Sr and137Cs content in moss-lichen vegetation and in components of the soil-vegetation cover of the Yamal Peninsula, Russia. Decreases in concentrations of both irradiants in mosses and lichens, as well as the degree of radionuclide pollution of the superficial soil layer, have occurred during the last 15 years. Compared to levels for 1963–1965,90Sr values decreased from 110–370 to 60–140 Bq/kg; values for137Cs fell from 1400–3200 to 90–370 Bq/kg. These data may serve as a basis for assessing the radiation situation in regions of the Far North, as well as for monitoring environmental contamination.
