Abstract
The permeation of deuterium through a 25 μm Cu foil was investigated using an atomic deuterium source. The diffusivity of deuterium in Cu at temperatures from 350–550 K was measured. Diffusivities observed in this study are in good agreement with reported values observed at higher temperatures (circa 800–1000 K). Use of an atomic deuterium source provided high internal pressures and superinventory effects analogous to those reported for various hydrogen-metal systems. Data collected in this study together with thermal desorption studies have been used to develop a comprehensive Lennard-Jones potential model for the View the MathML source system.
