Abstract
The hydrated compounds MV12O30.7PnH2O were investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The shape and
location of the complex core photoelectron lines V 2p, O 1s and M 3d were analyzed for the xerogels with different
MsMg, Ca, Sr and Ba. The valency of the vanadium ions, which plays an important role in the electrical conductivity of
the xerogels, was studied. The V4qr V4qqV5q. concentration ratio calculated from the area of the Gaussian components
of the V 2p lines indicates that this ratio is ;0.1 for all investigated compounds. The V3q ions were obtained in the
xerogels after cleaving by Arq ions. q1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved
