Abstract :
The chemical bonding of Zn, Mg, S and Mn atoms in Zn Mg S:Mn thin films has been studied with X-ray x 1yx photoelectron spectroscopy XPS.in view to correlate the variation of electronic state with blue shift of Mn2q emission in Zn Mg S. We have elucidated the clear dependence of binding energy, E of core electron on the composition x for x 1yx B each element as follows: EB Zn 2p3r2.s1022q0.6 x, EB Mg 2p.s50q0.6 x, EB S 2p3r2.s161q0.7x, EB Mn 2p3r2.s641q1.2 x eV.. The origin of the chemical shift of binding energies is discussed together with the effect of chemical shift on the photoluminescence. q1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
