Abstract
It is shown that the composition of coherently strained islands can be determined by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) when “Moiré-like” fringes are observed in kinematical images of these islands. The conditions in which such fringes can be observed are specified: high aspect ratio, truncation, etc. The composition is then readily determined by measuring the fringe spacing of the Moiré-like system.
